There is always an air of enthusiasm and excitement each year when the Premier’s Reading Challenge is introduced. Students in Classes 3 to 6 began the Challenge this week, and will endeavour to read ten books in ten weeks to receive their certificate from the Premier. Each student has a reading log, and a small prize is offered at the end, for completing the challenge. Many children benefit from the Challenge, and feedback from parents and teachers indicates that it is a worthwhile activity.
Students are being encouraged to challenge themselves, by reading a range of genres or authors, and by reading books which are at an appropriate level of difficulty. To read one book each week is a good measure of appropriateness — not too easy, not too difficult.
